Soon after the Running Information portal was established, a new South African online presence under the name of GlobalBuzz-SA was established. This was launched on the 1st January 2003 and it linked me a fair amount with the UK as the original planned format was more about South Africans living abroad and with a great deal to those living in the United Kingdom.
The site at first focused mainly on the forums and I must admit I was not too keen on the forums due to ‘human conflict’ and I wanted to focus more on information in a similar manner as to Time-to-Run.com.
This was before the time of Facebook and I am glad that I did steer the GBSA ship in the direction I wanted to go, as a short while afterwards Facebook would eat into the many sets of forums on the internet.
I still believe in forums but it has always been to deliver and provide feedback according to niche content.
The social aspects of forums led to heavy moderation and frustration, with the current set-up there is not that much involvement with ‘changing nappies and cleaning up petty comments’, which in the end left me more time to build the overall DMG-network.
Current visitors hovers around 36000 + per year with suitable manoeuvrability to upscale users and the utilisation of the structure. This would need for the next level of commercial implementation.
As we progress with the various posts discussing the development of the ‘network’, you will see much time was needed and now time must allow for achieving commercial success and may 2013 bring this
ps.. the design and layout has changed on numerous occasions since 2003
